I grew up surrounded by pigs, chickens, big gardens and the wide open wheat fields of my family farm at Craik, Saskatchewan. My nephew farms there now, while I all Saskatoon home.
After university, I worked as a news reporter at the Saskatoon Star-Phoenix and CBC Radio & TV. When the daily news grind got too grind-y, I skipped out and took up freelancing.
As a writer (and a cook from scratch kinda gal) I followed my heart and stomach back to the farm. Across the province and deep into the agricultural heartland of Canada. To the down home cooking of my childhood and the bounty of Saskatchewan.
I wrote a bushel of food-and-farm related articles, including three local food columns ~ Star Phoenix, Prairies North & Grainews. My interests gravitate toward food, history, biography and archival photographs, plus a whole lot of cooking where ingredients and recipes illuminated those themes.
I've published five books:

I'm currently working on two projects: a personal history of wheat and my family genealogy through recipes. This latter project is just for family, but I'll share some recipes here on my website from time to time.
